The Better Business Bureau Serving the Pacific Southwest invests in new initiatives to help businesses succeed through the coming decade

When you think of the Better Business Bureau, do your thoughts go directly to finding out trustworthy information about a company you’d like to do business with or filing a complaint about a business that isn’t meeting your expectations? Yes, for the last 109 years the BBB has done and continues to do both these things. Under the banner New Decade/New Vision 2020 the BBB is expanding its reach and influence, addressing issues that today’s small businesses need to face and master in order to succeed.

  • Through the grant program Main Street Matters our local BBB – working together with 27 community partners – has responded to our current crisis by giving over $218,000 in emergency grants to over 200 San Diego County businesses. The grantees were true local small businesses, covering everything from acupuncturists and personal chefs to funeral service providers and restaurants.
  • ignite sparked by BBB, a new cooperative initiative between the BBB and GoDaddy, will open a 6250 sq. ft. collaborative coworking and meeting space in the Kearny Mesa area of central San Diego in late summer of 2021. Following in the footsteps of the inaugural project in Phoenix, the San Diego campus will be a collaborative, inclusive, and multiuse coworking space dedicated to small business success. With the aspiration to be a one stop shop for small business owners and entrepreneurs, the ignite community, or “igniters”, will be a diverse group of professionals aligned around a common goal: building better businesses and nonprofit organizations.
  • In another partnership with GoDaddy, the BBB participates in the Empower by GoDaddy small business education initiative, a global community and philanthropic program equipping entrepreneurs in underserved communities with training, tools and peer networks to accelerate their journeys.
