Handlery Hotel
Founded on the principles of hard work, innovation, and family leadership, Handlery Hotels traces its roots to 1902, when founder Harry Handlery immigrated to the United States as a teenager and built a successful hospitality company from the ground up. Beginning with a single hotel in Northern California, Harry expanded strategically throughout the state, ultimately creating what became the largest family owned hotel company in the world by 1954.
Guided by vision and adaptability, the Handlery family played a significant role in shaping California’s hotel landscape, including landmark properties such as San Diego’s iconic El Cortez Hotel and the original Stardust Hotel in Mission Valley—now the Handlery Hotel San Diego. Through multiple generations, the family has remained deeply involved in daily operations, maintaining a hands on approach to service and guest experience.
Today, Handlery Hotels continues as a proudly family owned company led by third generation president Jon Handlery, carrying forward a legacy of warm hospitality, forward thinking design, and a commitment to creating memorable guest experiences for generations to come.
